Lyrical Essay Draft

What I like most about my lyrical essay is this a topic I am truly passionate about. Its something that I enjoyed gathering information for, speaking to different people about and also writing it. I struggled mostly with trying to relate to the people who’s opinions were opposite of mine. Like I say in the article sports meant a lot to me and when people have mixed opinions I just can’t really seem to relate. I am most proud of the different opinions I got with each of the topics I discussed. With a topic like this everyones opinion is so different from each other. One person reasoning can be totally different from another even if they share the same opinion. What surprised me the most was the people I asked who didn’t care for sports actually giving me the reason why. They didn’t just brush off my question they answered me and actually told me why they felt the way they did. I wouldn’t say this writing made me uncomfortable I like to be able to argue my opinion with some who feels the opposite in a healthy way. I like the challenge of trying to understand an opinion that is the polar opposite of mine. I really enjoyed writing this I feel that sports are an amazing part of life but others don’t agree and thats what I tried to figure out.

  1. Hey Nathan! I love topics on sports because it’s really so much you can discuss and debate about. When I read your essay, I noticed that you said you and your family were all very athletic, which to me plays a big part in liking or loving sports. I can agree that for the people who weren’t as active or athletic growing up, the thrill that some get from watching sports simply comes from supporting their home team or feeling a part of a team, especially if they’re a great team. My question to you would be, do you still play soccer or basketball today? Do you play competitively or just for fun? I can see that this topic was personal for you, and I believe you achieved this beautifully. Great job!

  2. Great job on your essay and showing different perspectives on the subject of sports. It was a very interesting read. It was interesting how you related sports to an escape or a time when someone can feel that adrenaline rush of playing, bringing back memories of when they were on a sports team. I’m not a huge sports fan myself, but many of the people I know are, and when you say that, it makes a lot of sense when I look at people, and their love for sports and watching them. I also found it interesting how you interviewed multiple people to get different perspectives and how all of your siblings grew up in an athletic environment, but some didn’t enjoy sports later on. I can relate to that. I experimented with multiple sports but never had the mentality that made me enjoy them and want to stick with them. After reading your essay, a question I have would be about the part where you mentioned that someone may not need an escape, and that’s why they may not like sports. Do you think they don’t need an escape at all, or that they may resort to less physical escapes due to not being a physical person? I know some people who don’t enjoy sports but their escape might be reading. I enjoyed your essay!
